In The Garden

Now that Spring is here again, I am back to my favorite evening pastime: gardening. At present our garden is very sparse as we are trying to clean up and rehab the once nice garden that existed on the property. Many years ago someone took care in avoiding non-native plant species, installing a sprinkler system for most of the garden, and maintaining a variety of rose bushes. But at some point in the years prior to our purchasing the house, the garden was let go.

Last year considerable time was spent clearing out and rehabilitating the waist high planter bed along the rear of the house. This area is also home to the garden railroad. During the clean up, three rose bushes were located and are slowly being nursed back to health. Extensive oregano was removed, and only half returned this year.

Several plants have taken hold throughout the garden. Oregano, planted straight into the soil, has covered most of the hill. Joining it are “Donkey Tail”, which at first appeared to be confined to half the garden, spread throughout the hill.

Presently the following plants are being cultivated in the garden:

  • Lavender
  • Rosemary
  • Chive
  • Oregano
  • Cilantro
  • White Onions
